Bikes, activities and Brionnais trails

The Brionnais is best discovered by bike, hair in the wind and battery fully charged. Electric bikes can be rented at reception (€25 per day) to ride along the Véloloire or on the Charlieu and Grand Couvert loops, between the gentle Loire, watchful châteaux, and villages warmed by sun‑soaked stone. Further afield, local activities reveal a lively region: canoeing on the Loire, cinema in Charlieu, the Lespinasse forest, Lake Villerest, donkey‑led hikes, or summer mazes. And when your legs call for calm, walking trails take over: Semur‑en‑Brionnais and its soft paths, Noailly and La Bénisson‑Dieu at the end of the trail. Here, every outing tells a piece of the land—simple and generous.

local markets and crafts

Around the Colombier, local craftsmanship reveals the full richness of the Brionnais. Fine oils, ceramics, chocolates, cheeses, or wines from the Côte Roannaise all bear witness to know‑how passed down with passion. Workshops and boutiques invite you to meet the people who shape the region and to discover authentic products. A little further on, you’ll find the markets — open‑air theatres where everyone gathers. In Marcigny, one of the oldest in the country, the stalls set up the way one lays a table: generous, talkative, full of colour. You go there to buy products, of course, but also stories — sometimes even memories. And as the day stretches on, the flea markets open another door. You wander without urgency, rummaging as you would leaf through an old novel. A time‑worn piece of furniture, a slightly wobbly object, a find that makes you smile: here, every piece has already lived, and that is precisely what makes it beautiful.
